1959Dec 29Launched.
1960Jul 29Commissioned.
 Aug 24Assigned to SubRon 6, Division 62, she sailed for a 2 month deployment in Eruopean waters, participating in exercises with units of the 6th Fleet and of other NATO navies.
1961May 15Departed New London after training along the eastern seaborad to cross the Atlantic again for operations which took her into the summer.
 Sep 15Changed home port to Norfolk, VA. where she remained for the remainder of her career specializing in the development of nuclear submarine warfare tactics.
1963Jun 1Entered Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, SC. for overhaul.
1964Aug 4After resuming duty off the eastern coast, she again interrupted that duty to make a transatlantic patrol.
1965Mar 1Scorpion made a translantic patrol in European waters.
1966Feb 1Scorpion deployed for Special Operations in European waters.
 Sep 1Scorpion deployed for Special Operations in European waters.
 Dec 1Scorpion's Commanding Officer received the Navy Commendation Medal for outstanding leadership, foresight, and professional skill. Other Scorpion officers and crewmen were cited for meritorious achievement.
1967Feb 1Entered Norfolk Naval Shipyard for another extended overhaul.
 Nov 9Commenced Weapons System Accuracy Tests in the Caribbean around Frederiksted, St. Croix
 Nov 17Pulled in to Frederiksted, St. Croix for a short period ashore. Left on the 19th.
 Dec 4on the Fourth and the Fifth, conducted Torpedo launching exercises around the Virginia Capes
1968Jan 13From 13 Jan to the first week of Feb, was a part of the Aged Daddy V execises south of Norfolk.
 Feb 15Following type training out of Norfolk she got underway for exercises with Task Force 83.4 southeast of Bermuda; acting as a target for surface ships. Finished these exercises on 19 February.
 Feb 20Participated in HUKEX exercises in the Mid Atlantic. Headed toward the Strait of Gilbralter at the end of these on February 25th.
 Feb 27Sailed for Rota, Spain to receive supplies and upkeep.
 Feb 28Scorpion is in Rota, Spain for five days to work on equipment. Left Rota on 5 March, 1968
 Mar 10Anchored in harbor of Taranto, Spain. Left on March 12 for Naval Exercise.
 Mar 23In Augusta Bay, Sicily for Liberty. Left March 30.
 Apr 10Liberty in Naples, Italy.Tied up to USS Tallahatchie County AVB-2.Left around April 20.
 Apr 20Back in Naples, Italy for R and R. Left April 28.
 May 16Just before Midnight of 16 May, Bill Elrod and Joe Underwood left the ship via Navy Tug in Roata Spain to fly back to the United States.
 May 22From Silent Steel by Stephen Johnson on page 13The Scorpion and it's crew died on May 22, 1968 at precisely 1822 GMT. Fifteen acustic signals over a period of 190 seconds signaled the loss of the submarine.
 May 22Decommissioned.
 May 22Shortly after midnight of the 22nd,She indicated her position to be about 50 miles south of the Azores. Her last transmission ended at 0302. Six days later she was reported overdue at Norfolk. 99 men lost.
 Jun 5After a search was initiated, her crew was delcared "presumed lost".
 Jun 30Struck from the Naval Register.
 Oct 30The Navy's oceanographic research ship, MIZAR (T-AGOR-11) located sections of the hull in more then 10,000 feet of water about 400 miles southwest of the Azores.
