1960Mar 15Keel laid down by the Electric Boat Co., Groton, CT.
1961Jun 15Launched.
1962Mar 10Commissioned with CAPT. Charles M. Young commanding the Blue Crew and CAPT. Walter Dedrick commanding the Gold Crew.
 Apr 9During shakedown training off the Eastern Coast of the United States, Thomas A. Edison collided with the USS Wadleigh (DD-689).
 Nov 7T. Edison loaded Polaris missiles at Charleston, SC., and embarked upon her first deterrent patrol. She concluded that patrol at the base at Holy Loch, Scotland, whence she operated for the next 4 years and 17 deterrent patrols.
1966Sep 1Edison's official home port was changed from New London, CT. to Charleston, SC., in preparation for her first major overhaul.
 Oct 15T. Edison ended her 17th patrol at Charleston, SC.
 Oct 28T. Edison commenced overhaul at the Charleston Naval Shupyard, Charleston, SC.
1968May 9T. Edison completed overhaul.
 Sep 22T. Edison embarked on her 18th patrol. After a shortened 19th patrol she conducted a "Follow On Target" or "FOT" test launch of four randomly selected missiles.
 Sep 22(Cont'd.) Edison then proceeded to a location just off the Canary Islands, and fired these missiles into the Caribbean. Due to the accuracy and timeliness of this successful launch, the members of that Blue Crew were awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation.
1973Jul 11T. Edison transferred to the Pacific Fleet.
 Aug 6T. Edison commenced overhaul at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA.
1974Nov 30T. Edison completed overhaul.
1975Mar 1T. Edison transited the Panama Canal to fire test missile off Cape Canaveral, FL.
 Aug 8T. Edison retransited the Panama Canal and carried out operations along the West Coast until December at which time she headed for her new home port, Guam, Marianas Island.
1977Jun 14T. Edison crossed the equator and conducted Shellback initiation.
1980Oct 6T. Edison was reclassified as an attack submarine SSN-610.
1983Dec 1T. Edison was decommissioned.
1986Apr 30T. Edison was struck from the Naval Register.
1996Oct 1T. Edison went through the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at the Puget Sound Naval Shupyard, Bremerton, WA., beginning on 1 October 1996 and on 1 December 1997 ceased to exist.
