1959May 16Launched.
 Oct 15Commissioned with LCDR. Robert H. Gautier in command.
1960Jan 1After fitting out, Blueback got underway in for a series of acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico.
 Jun 11Blueback departed Pascagoula, MS. bound for the Pacific.
 Jul 7She transited the Panama Canal and continued on to her home port, San Diego, CA. There she was assigned to Submarine Squadron 3, Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet.
 Nov 23Blueback was accepted for service.
1961Feb 11She commenced a two-week availability at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA.
 Mar 28Blueback got underway for a deployment to the western Pacific during which she participated ln 7th Fleet operations and exercises.
 Sep 3Blueback left Yokosuka, Japan and sailed submerged to San Diego, CA.
 Sep 25Blueback arrived at San Diego, CA.
 Oct 14After leave and upkeep, Blueback began type training exercises out of San Diego, CA.
1962Jul 1Blueback entered the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA. for her first major overhaul.
1963Jan 1Upon completion of the overhaul, the submarine made port calls at Seattle, WA. and Vancouver, British Columbia. She then left the West coast and proceeded to her new home port, Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Apr 11(Cont'd.)She then continued on to Subic Bay in the Philippines for operations with the 7th Fleet. While on her deployment, Blueback also called at Naha, Okinawa and at Sasebo, Kobe, and Yokosuka, Japan.
 Apr 11Blueback got underway for operations in WestPac. Blueback sailed to Australia to participate in the annual celebration of the anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea and visited Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth.

 Oct 26Blueback returned to Pearl Harbor, HI.
1965Feb 17Blueback began her second deployment to the Far East. During the cruise, she made port calls at Naha, Hong Kong, Subic Bay, and Yokosuka, and also was involved in supporting American operations in Vietnam.

 Sep 7She got underway for Bremerton, WA.
 Sep 25Blueback entered Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA. for overhaul
1966Sep 26The yard work ended, and the submarine commenced sound trials and weapons tests in Puget Sound. She also provided services for a research and development project conducted near Nanoose, Canada.
 Nov 5Blueback arrived in Pearl Harbor, HI.
1967Feb 17Blueback embarked on another tour of duty in the western Pacific.
 Sep 20Blueback returned to Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Dec 19Blueback entered the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for a restricted availability.
1968Jul 8She began a five-month deployment to the Far East which, in addition to two special operations, also included much time spent in upkeep at Yokosuka, Japan.
 Dec 3Blueback returned to Pearl Harbor, HI.
1969Jan 17Blueback entered the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Brmerton, WA. for an overhaul.
1970Apr 10Blueback set sail on her 5th deployment to the western Pacific. She carried out lengthy special operations; made brief visits to Yokosuka, Hong Kong, and Guam; and spent time in the Vietnam war zone.
 Oct 1Blueback returned to Pearl Harbor, HI.
1971Feb 12She entered the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for a restricted availability which concluded in late March with trials at sea.
 Apr 2She took part in SUBASWEX 1-71 in the Pearl Harbor area. After conducting torpedo firing exercises, Blueback entered upkeep at Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Jun 25Blueback began another Far Eastern assignment.
 Dec 14She arrived back in her home port.
1972Mar 29Blueback began a lengthy overhaul at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.
1973Mar 1She finished the yard work commenced local operations and trained in preparation for deployment.
 Aug 8She sailed for the Orient and, while there, participated in several operations with other American warships as well as with naval forces from Korea and Taiwan.
 Aug 8(Cont'd.) Among the ports she visited were Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan; Chinhae and Pusan, Korea; Buckner Bay, Okinawa; Hong Kong; and Subic Bay in the Philippines.
1974Jan 5Blueback left Subic Bay and visited Keelung, Taiwan, for two days before heading back to Hawaii.
 Jan 31The submarine arrived in Pearl Harbor, HI. and commenced a leave and upkeep period.
1976Feb 1Blueback began another long overhaul at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.
 Dec 1Completed her yard overhaul.
1977Mar 28Blueback departed Pearl Harbor, HI. and proceeded to her new home port, San Diego, CA.
 Apr 8Blueback arrived in Dan Diego, CA.
 Jun 21She got underway for Santa Marta, Colombia.
 Aug 7Arriving at Santa Marta, Colombia, she joined Task Force 138 to participate in UNITAS XVIII. The task foxce also included Mahan (DDG-42), Capodano (FF-1063), and Vreeland (FF-1098).
 Sep 27She departed Talcahuano, Chile, and headed back to San Diego, CA. She stopped at Rodman in the Panama Canal Zone, and made a four day liberty call at Acapulco, Mexico,
 Nov 11Blueback arrived back in San Diego, CA.
1978May 30The ship sailed for Portland, OR., where she represented the Submarine Force at that city's Rose Festival. She then continued North along the coast to conduct an exercise with Canadian forces off Esquimalt, British Columbia.
 Sep 11She got underway for her eighth western Pacific cruise. She touched at Pearl Harbor, HI. on the 22nd, but soon pressed on for Japan.
 Oct 7Blueback arrived at Yokosuka, Japan. She next made a run to Chinhae, Korea, for two weeks of joint special warfare and ASW exercises with units of the South Korean Navy.
 Nov 5Blueback arrived in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to participate in ASW exercises with the Taiwanese Navy.
 Dec 13Blueback arrived at Subic Bay, Philippines to close out the year in upkeep.
1979Jan 5Blueback got underway to provide target services for ships of the 7th Fleet undergoing ASW training. She then took part in special warfare exercises with Army Special Forces troops.
 Jan 22Blueback arrived at Subic Bay for upkeep. Nine days later, she set out on a submerged voyage back to the United States.
 Mar 1Blueback arrived at San Diego, CA.
 Oct 1Blueback entered drydock
 Nov 27She began sea trials and then provided ASW services before closing the year in a holiday leave and upkeep status.
1980Jan 1The last 10 years of Blueback's history is not available.
1990Jun 30Decommissioned.
 Oct 30Struck from the Naval Register.
1994Feb 1The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) towed her to Portland, Oregon, where she now rests as an interactive part of the museum and a memorial.
