1942Mar 20Keel laid down by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME.
 Aug 15Launched.
 Oct 24Commissioned with LCDR. C.O. Triebel in command.
1943Mar 3After shakedown training off the New England coast, Snook departed New London and set sail for the Pacific.
 Apr 11Following a 12-day stopover at Pearl Harbor, HI. Snook put to sea and headed for the Yellow Sea and East China Sea for her first war patrol.
 May 5Snook sighted two freighters standing out of Dairen and took up the chase. She trailed both until after nightfall, then let go with a spread of 3 torpedoes that quickly sank the Kinko Maru.
 May 5(Cont'd.) Then opened fire with her guns, forcing the submarine to race out of range. Snook quickly returned to the action, however, firing 3 torpedoes, with 1 hit amidships, that sent Daifuku Maru to the bottom.
 May 5(Cont'd.) The lead freighter continued on, oblivious to the fate that had befallen her companion, until someone on the sinking ship sounded a whistle. At that point, the freighter began a series of frantic maneuvers to dodge two of Snook's torpedoes.
 May 7Snook began quickly closing a convoy. She launched 4 torpedoes, followed by 3 others 5 minutes later. Amid a din of explosions, the 4,363 ton cargo ship Hosei Maru was mortally wounded and several other ships were possibly damaged.
 May 13Snook destroyed an armed trawler.
 May 16Snook destroyed an armed trawler.
 May 23Snook terminated her 1st patrol at Midway Island.
 Jun 9Snook set sail from Midway Island for her 2nd war patrol and headed for the waters off the Ryukyu Islands.
 Jun 24Snook closed a 6 ship convoy escorted by 2 destroyers, fired 2 torpedoes at a large tanker, and heard 2 hits as she went deep and rigged for silent running to avoid the patrolling escorts.
 Jun 24(Cont'd.) Coming back up to periscope depth, she found a destroyer guarding the crippled ship and was prevented from a second try by overhead aircraft.
 Jul 3Shortly before midnight, Snook made radar contact with another enemy convoy.
 Jul 4Early in the morning, she sent a spread of 6 torpedoes on their way and was rewarded with hits that sank the cargo ships Koki Maru and Liverpool Maru and severely damaged Atlantic Maru.
 Jul 18Snook returned to Pearl Harbor, HI. from her second patrol
 Aug 18Snook got underway from Pearl Harbor, HI. for her 3rd war patrol.
 Aug 30Snook arrived off Marcus Island to take reconnaissance photographs and stand lifeguard duty for the carrier airstrikes of 1 September. Following the airstrikes, the submarine resumed patrol and headed for the East China Sea.
 Sep 13In the early morning darkness, Snook torpedoed and sank the 9,650 ton transport Yamato Maru.
 Sep 22Snook intercepted a Japanese ship departing Dairen and quickly sent the 715 ton cargo ship Katsurahama Maru to the bottom.
 Oct 8Snook terminated her 3rd patrol at Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Oct 22Snook departed Pearl Harbor, HI. on her 4th war patrol in a coordinated attack group with sister ships Pargo (SS-264) and Harder (SS-257) in the waters off the Marianas Islands.
 Nov 29Snook spent a productive day sinking the passenger-cargo ship Yamafuku Maru, the victim of 4 torpedo hits, and the cargo ship Shiganoura Maru, as well as damaging an escort ship.
 Dec 7Snook returned to Midway Island and was routed on to Pearl Harbor, HI. to end her 4th war patrol.
1944Jan 6Snook cleared Pearl Harbor, HI. and headed for the Western Coast of Kyushu on her 5th war patrol.
 Jan 23While off the Bonin Islands, Snook torpedoed and sank the 3,120 ton converted gunboat Magane Maru.
 Feb 8Snook attacked a 13 ship convoy, firing a spread of 4 torpedoes for 3 hits. In this action, she sank the freighter Lima Maru, and heavily damaged the freighter Shiranesan Maru.
 Feb 14Snook quickly sank the freighter Nittoku Maru, with 1 torpedo hit amidships.
 Feb 15Snook sank the cargo ship Hoshi Maru Number Two.
 Feb 23Snook made a daring approach through a screen of 11 enemy escort ships. After firing 5 torpedoes, she observed 2 good hits which sank the passenger-cargo ship, Koyo Maru.
 Mar 6Snook terminated her 5th patrol at Pearl Harbor, HI. and continued to Hunters Point Navy Yard for a major overhaul.
 Jul 12After 5 productive war patrols, Snook came upon hard luck on her 6th. Although she fired at and missed 2 freighters, the remainder of the patrol was devoid of worthwhile targets.
 Aug 14Snook returned to Midway Island.
 Sep 25Snook's 7th war patrol was conducted in Luzon Strait and the South China Sea. Snook stopped at Saipan for repairs.
 Oct 4Snook continued her patrol.
 Oct 23Snook contacted an enemy convoy. Within the next 24 hours, Snook sent 3 enemy vessels to watery graves. The first was the passenger-cargo ship Shinsei Maru Number 1. After evading 2 escorts, the submarine resumed the chase.
 Oct 24Snook quickly returned to the convoy and let go with 5 bow torpedoes and observed the cargo ship, or "Hell ship", Arisan Maru sink beneath the waves, killing about 1,800 American prisoners of war.
 Oct 24The tanker Kikusui Maru was the next to be sent to the bottom after a torpedo hit disintegrated the entire after end of the ship.
 Nov 3Snook rescued a downed airman.
 Nov 18Snook returned to Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Dec 25Snook's 8th war patrol was conducted off the Kuril Islands. Her only sightings during this patrol were 2 Soviet vessels and a momentary contact with a small patrol craft which was quickly lost.
1945Feb 17Snook terminated her 8th war patrol.
 Apr 8Snook was lost from unknown causes while conducting her 9th war patrol, in the South China Sea and Luzon Strait. 84 men lost.
