1942Mar 20Keel laid down by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME.
 Jul 20Launched.
 Oct 1Commissioned with LCDR. William N. Wylie in command. Following further yard work and fitting out, Scorpion conducted shakedown operations off the Southern New England coast during January 1943.
1943Feb 25Scorpion transited the Panama Canal.
 Mar 24Scorpion arrived at Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Apr 5Scorpion departed Pearl Harbor, HI. on her 1st war patrol, a hunting and mining mission off the East Coast of Honshu.
 Apr 19Scorpion reached the mining area near Nakaminato. During the afternoon, she reconnoitered the coast; and, in the evening, she planted her naval mines; then retired to deep water.
 Apr 20Scorepion sank her first enemy ship, the 1,934 ton converted gunboat, Meji Maru No. 1.
 Apr 21Scorpion sank her first sampan with gunfire.
 Apr 22Scorpion destroyed 3 more sampans with gunfire and continued North, toward Kinkasan To.
 Apr 27Scorpion sank the 6,380 ton merchant vessel Yuzan Maru.
 Apr 29Scorpion sighted and engaged a 100 ton patrol vessel, which she left burning to the waterline.
 Apr 30Scorpion stalked, fired on, and finally torpedoed and sank a 600 ton patrol ship. During the fight, however, Scorpion received her first casualty. LCR. R. M. Raymond, on board as prospective Commanding Officer, was hit and killed by gunfire.
 May 8Scorpion arrived at Pearl Harbor, HI.
 May 29Scorpion departed Pearl Harbor, HI. on her 2nd war patrol.
 Jun 2Scorpion refueled at Midway Island.
 Jun 21Scorpion arrived off Takara Jima in the Tokara Gunto.
 Jun 28Scorpion shifted her hunt to the Yellow Sea.
 Jun 30Scorpion was off the Shantung Peninsula.
 Jul 3Scorpion fired torpedoes at a 5 freighter convoy. Postwar examination of Japanese records show that Scorpion scored 5 hits and sank the 3,890 ton freighter, Anzan Maru, and the 6,112 ton passenger-cargo ship Kokuryu Maru.
 Jul 26Scorpion arrived back at Pearl Harbor, HI.,underwent repairs, conducted training exercises.
 Oct 13Scorpion departed Pearl Harbor, HI. on her 3rd war patrol.
 Oct 17After touching at Midway Island, Scorion headed for the Mariana Islands, where she reconnoitered Pagan Island and Agrihan Island on 25 October and 26 October, and Farallon de Pajoras on 1 November and 2 November.
 Nov 13Scorpion sighted a freighter and a tanker escorted by 3 warships. Firing her torpedoes, she scored on the oiler, which went dead in the water. One of the escorts dropped depth charges, then rejoined the formation.
 Dec 5Scorpion arrived at Pearl Harbor, HI.
 Dec 29Scorpion departed Pearl Harbor, HI. on her 4th and last war patrol. Her assigned area was in the Northern East China Sea and Yellow Sea.
1944Jan 3Scorpion refuled at Midway Island.
 Jan 5Scorpion was lost with all hands.76 men lost. Sunk by possible Japanese mine in the Yellow Sea off China.
