 Nov 14Launched.
1944Feb 29Commissioned with LCDR. Herman J. Kossler in command.
 Apr 11Cavalla departed New London, CT.
 May 9Cavalla arrived at Pearl Harbor, HI. for voyage repairs and training.
 May 31Cavalla departed on er 1st war partol, bound for distant, enemy held waters.
 Jun 17Enroute to her station in the Philippines, Cavalla made contact with a large Japanese task force. Tracked the force for several hours, and relayed information which contributed to the victory of the Battle of the Philippine Sea "Marianas Turkey Shoot".
 Jun 19Cavalla found the carrier Shokaku landing planes and fired a spread of 6 torpedoes for 3 hits, enough to send her to the bottom.
 Sep 15Cavalla's 2nd war partol took her to the Philippine Seas as a member of a wolfpack operating in support of the invasion of Peleliu.
 Nov 25During Cavalla's 3rd war partol, she encountered 2 Japanese destroyers and made a daring suface attack which blew up the Shimotsuki..
1945Jan 5During a night surface attack on an enemy convoy, Cavalla sank 2 converted net tenders.
 May 12During her 5th partol she sighted the ally submarine HMS Terrapin, which was damaged by enemy depth charges and unable to submerge or make full speed. She stood by the wounded submarine and escorted her on the surface to Fremantle, Australia.
 May 27Cavalla arrived at Fremantle, Australia.
 Aug 15She was on her 6th partol, doing lifeguard duty offf Japan when she received the cease-fire order. A few minutes later she was bombed by a Japanese plane that apparently had not yet receive the information.
 Sep 2Cavalla was in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the surrender.
 Sep 3Cavalla departed for New London, CT.
 Oct 6Cavalla arrived at New London, CT.
1946Mar 16Cavalla was placed "Out of Commission, In Reserve" at New London, CT.
1951Apr 10Cavalla was recommissioned and assigned to SubRon 8 and engaged in various Fleet exercises in the Caribbean and off Nova Scotia.
1952Sep 3Cavalla was placed "Out of Commission" and entered the Electric Boat Co. for conversion to a hunter killer submarine.
1953Feb 18Cavalla was reclassified as SSK-244.
 Jul 15Cavalla was recommissioned and assigned to SubRon 10.
1954Jan 1Cavalla was transfered to Submarine Development Group 2, to evaluate new weapons and equipment and participate in Fleet exercises.
1957Jun 11Cavalla visited Norfolk, VA., for the International Naval Review.
1959Aug 15Cavalla's classification reverted to SS-244.
1963Jul 1Cavalla was reclassified as an Auxiliary Submarine AGSS-244.
1969Dec 30Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register.
1971Jan 21Cavalla was transferred to the Texas Submarine Veterans of WWII. She now resides at Seawolf Park on Pelican Island, just North of Galveston, TX. Cavalla has undergone an extensive restoration process, and is open for self guided tours.
