 Jun 21Commissioned with LCDR. James C. Dempsey in command.
 Oct 2Cod arrived at Brisbane, Australia.
 Oct 22Cod sailed from Brisbane, Australia for her 1st war patrol to the South China Sea. She contacted few targets and launched only one attack, with unobserved results.
 Dec 16Cod returned to Fremantle, Australia for refit.
1944Jan 11Cod departed Fremantle for her 2nd war patrol in the South China Sea off Java and off Halmahea.
 Feb 16Cod surfaced to sink a sampan by gunfire.
 Feb 23Cod torpedoed a Japanese merchantman.
 Feb 27Cod sent another merchantman to the bottom.
 Feb 29Cod attacked a third merchantman, only to be forced deep by a concentrated depth charging delivered by an alert escort ship.
 Mar 13Cod returned to Fremantle, Australia for refit.
 Apr 6Cod departed Fremantle on her 3rd war patrol to the Sulu and South China Seas off Luzon.
 May 10Cod attacked a convoy of 32 ships and sank the destroyer Karukaya and a cargo ship before the escorts drove her down with depth charges.
 Jun 1Cod returned to Fremantle, Australia to replenish.
 Jul 3Cod departed Fremantle, Australia on her 4th war patrol, under the command of CDR. James "Caddy" Adkins. She ranged from the coast of Luzon to Java.
 Aug 3Cod sank a merchantman.
 Aug 14Cod sank a landing craft, LSV-129.
 Aug 25Cod returned to Fremantle, Australia from a successful patrol.
 Sep 18Cod put to sea on her 5th war patrol bound for the Philippine waters.
 Oct 5Cod made her first contact, a cargo ship, and sent it to the bottom.
 Oct 7Cod inflicted heavy damage on a tanker.
 Oct 25Contacting a large convoy, Cod launched several attacks without success. With all her torpedoes expended, she continued to shadow the convoy for another day to report it's position.
 Nov 1Cod took up lifeguard station off Luzon, ready to rescue carrier pilots carrying out air strikes on Japanese bases which paved the way for the invasion of Leyte later that month.
 Nov 20Cod returned to Pearl Harbor, HI., and sailed on to a stateside overhaul.
1945Mar 7Cod returned to Pearl Harbor, HI. after overhaul.
 Mar 24Cod sailed for the East China Sea on her 6th war patrol. Assigned primarily lifeguard duty.
 Apr 17Cod used her deck gun to sink a tug and it's tow.
 Apr 18She sent the minesweeper W-41 to the bottom.
 Apr 24Cod launched an attack on a convoy which resulted in the most severe depth charging of her career.
 Apr 25Cod sent the minesweeper W-41 to the bottom.
 Apr 26Cod was threatened by a fire in the after torpedo room, but was saved by the heroism and skill of her men who fought the fire under control and manually fired a torpedo already in it's tube before the fire could detonate it. One man was lost overboard.
 May 29Cod returned to Guam, Marianas Island, for refit.
 Jun 26Cod put out for the Gulf of Siam and the coast of Indo-China on her 7th war patrol under the command of LCDR. Edwin M. Westbrook, Jr.
 Jul 9Cod went to the rescue of the grounded Dutch submarine, O-19, taking it's crew on board and destroying the Dutch boat when it could not be gotten off the reef. This was the only international submarine-to-submarine rescue in history.
 Jul 29After returning the Dutch sailors to Subic Bay, between 21 July and 1 August, Cod made 20 gunfire attacks on the junks, motor sampans, and barges which were all that remained to supply the Japanese at Singapore.
 Jul 29(Cont'd.) After inspecting each contact to rescue friendly natives, Cod sank it by gunfire, sending to the bottom a total of 23.
 Aug 1An enemy plane strafed Cod forcing her to dive, leaving one of her borading parties behind. These men were rescued 2 days later by Blnny (SS-324).
 Aug 13Cod returned to Fremantle, Australia, the crew of O-19 was waiting to throw a party for her. The two crews learned of the Japanese surrender. To symbolize that happy moment, another symbol was added to Cod’s battle. The name O-19 under a martini glass.
 Aug 31Cod sailed for home.
 Nov 3Cod arrived at New London, CT. after a visit to Miami, FL. She then sailed to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Philadelphia, PA. for overhaul.
1946Jun 22Cod returned to New London, CT. where she was decommissioned and placed "In Reserve".
1951Jan 1Cod was recommissioned, under the command of CAPT. Francis E. Rich, to participate in NATO anti-submarine training exercises. Her Cold War voyages took Cod to St. John's Newfoundland, as well as ports in Cuba and South America.
1952Jan 1During LANTFLEX '52 fleet exercise, Cod was credited with "sinking" a U.S. aircraft carrier.
1954Jan 1Cod was decommissioned and placed "In Reserve".
1959Jan 1Cod was towed through the newly opened St. Lawrence Seaway to serve as a Naval Reserve training vessel in Cleveland, Ohio.
1976May 1Cod began her career as a floating memorial when she opened for public tours and quickly established herself as a popular tourist attraction.
