This memorial was built on top of Moonshine Mountain, just outside the mountain town of Burnsville, NC.
It was built by TMC(SS) Harrell Flowers who rode USS Gato (SS 212) during WWII. It was officially dedicated by the North Carolina Submarine Veterans in June 2003.
Chief Flowers had gone on eternal patrol several years before the formal dedication service took place. The new property owners are committed to maintaining this memorial and welcome submarine veterans to visit it.
