USS George Washington SSBN/SSN-598
Description
The Sail of the USS George Washington SSBN/SSN-598 resides close to the Library of the Submarine Force Library and Museum on the New London Sub Base. The George Washington was the first of the Polaris Missle Boats, launching the first of the Polaris Missles on 20 July 1960. She was built from what was started as the hull for the USS Scorpion. In the forward Escape hatch was a plaque bearing the name USS Scorpion.
