USS GRAYLING (SS-209) WWII Memorial
USS Grayling at Sea
Description
USS GRAYLING (SS-209) was laid down at the Navy Yard, Portsmouth, N.H., 15 December 1939; launched 4 September 1940, Lt. Comdr. F. Olson in command. Grayling's loss may have been operational or by an unrecorded enemy attack. At any rate, it is certain that GRAYLING was lost between 9 and 12 September 1943 either in Lingayen Gulf or along the approaches to Manila. GRAYLING received six battle stars for World War II service. The U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II assigned USS Grayling (SS-209) to the State of Colorado.
