Dedicated on 11 April 2015, The Submarine Veterans Memorial is located at the end of the Somers Point Bike Path across from Patriot Park and adjacent to the Somers Point VFW.
During WW II, Fifty two U.S. Submarines were lost, the majority due to enemy action. Over 3,500 men died aboard these submarines. The U.S. Submarine Force suffered the highest percentage of lives sacrificed in all branches of the United States military service during the war.
Of the 16,000 men who served on these submarines, one out of every four were lost.
This Memorial honors those brave men as well as all veterans and the men and women of today’s military.
