Memorial Dedication:
Prior to the business meeting, base members and guests met at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center for the dedication of our West Virginia Submarine Memorial. The attendance was outstanding: approximately 80 people were present for the dedication. TRI-STATE Vice Commander Doug Smith, in concert with Base Commander Jim Wilhelm and Chaplain Bob Patrick conducted the ceremonies. Our guest speaker was Ms Ann R. Brown, Medical Center Director. Ms Brown gave a moving speech, centered on the Submarine Service and its dedicated shipmates (including her grandfather who was a submariner in WWII). The ceremony was flanked by WWII vets from TRI-STATE and Keystone bases. A beautiful wreath provided by Zimmerman’s Florist was placed adjacent to the stone memorial by the WWII vets after the unveiling.
