Description
In the Woodlawn Memorials Gardens Cemetery is a small marker dedicated to those lost on the USS Scorpion SSN-589 on 22 May 1968. Those present at the ceremony included Thresea Bishop, wife of COB Wally Bishop TMC(SS), and her daughter Mary Etta. also there was Joan Cowan, mother of Robert James Cowan MM1(SS) and her daugher, Stephanie. Mrs. Bishop is now buried in the same cemetery. This is a stop on the tour that is held when Memorial Services are held for the USS Scorpion. Also included in the tour is the memorial at the D & S Piers in Norfolk and the Monument Stone in Huntington Park in Newport News. Both of these memorials are also on the Sub Memorials Map.
